Javier Zaragoza was born in Ajijic, Jalisco in 1944. Inspired by the beauty of Lake Chapala and the surrounding hills, he produced his first paintings at the age of 7, and began his art studies at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato when he was 13. He moved to Los Angeles, California when he was 18 and continued his studies at the L.A. Trade Technology College and the Pasadena Art Center.
He worked in the field of commercial publicity and also worked for Warner Brothers in Los Angeles. His realistic oil paintings of Mexican natives reflect his deep understanding of their character and feelings, and he works with live models that live in his village. He has had expositions of his art in California, Oregon, Mexico, and has a permanent exhibition at Galeria Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. | | |
